I still have no idea what my topic is going to be.
I'm not a history lady, at all. I have no idea what I'm doing.
I just can't fathom writing an entire paper about coal mining, chicken farms, or something of the sort.
I like music, art, theater, movies and TWLOHA.
I should probably learn to broaden my horizons, huh?
...or is there some sort of community that bases itself around one of those things? Hollywood? Seems far too shallow to write a paper about. Or perhaps exposing the pure simplistic yet exceedingly complicated vices of Hollywood would be part of my paper's charm? No clue. Plus, I don't know that much about the area, but I do suppose that's what research is for!
It was also suggested to me that I could pick Nashville as a community. It (at least used to) center itself pretty thoroughly around music, correct? But the only thing is a lot of it comes from other places migrating to Nashville to be discovered and become something. Does that even make sense? And would that even work?
Yeah, that does make sense.
ReplyDeleteI think that the constant influx of musicians to the area definitely could have had an affect on the previously existing community, if there was one. It could also be interesting to research whether the musicians themselves formed a community; how they may have supported or defended one another. You could easily look at the different classes, regional identities, religions affiliations, genders, and ethnicities of the musicians and what impact that had on Nashville. Was there any testy relations between maybe a certain group of people and a record label or even between different groups of performers?
Either way, I say go for it. If it doesn't work out than at least you wasted a bunch of time researching something that you're interested in.
Good Luck!

By far the coolest profile of the whole class...
ReplyDeleteya i think you should go into researching the area. its a community that bases itself around music and if they didnt have that culture the city of Nashville would not be what it is today but if its to hard for you to research then you dont have to do it.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck and i hope you find the right topic.
If you are still unsure of a topic, please come see me during office hours (or make an appointment). I have some ideas for possibly altering your project a bit to suit your interests as well as your major.
ReplyDeleteHey there!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with everyone's ideas. But I had an idea about what you mentioned about Hollywood and how you could begin to research it. I am also a huge television and movie watcher. So, I don't know if you're keeping the topic of Nashville or not but, what about Hollywood strikes? If you recall there was a pretty big "Writer's Strike" in Hollywood back in 2007-2008. I knew what was going on then because a couple of my favorite shows were affected by the strike. If you are still unsure about a topic, this is an option. Here are a couple of sites to give you a better idea of the strike if you're interested...
